Michigan Tech RFC

MTU RFC

A brief Overview:

In the fall of 2007, two brave souls, Ricky Bobholz, and Jonny T, decided to take on the challenge of forming a rugby club at a University known for its snowfall, not its athletic students. The fall season was short that year, but by the spring of 2008, through mass advertising and recruiting, a team was formed and our first match was held against Northern.

2008-2009 Season

Numbers grew as word spread about this new sport at Michigan Tech. A board of directors was formed and the club named a president, vice president, treasurer and a secretary. The club became an official club sport at Michigan Tech, and the club Played in several different matches against Northern, Calvin, and MSOE.

Fall 2009

Once again we have seen our numbers grow as many new people have joined the team. We played in three different tournaments against Northern, UM-Duluth, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Parkside. The club joined USA rugby, and is hoping to enter league play by the fall of 2010.

Spring 2010

Michigan Tech hosted its first annual Iditarug snow rugby tournament. University of Michigan - Northern mens and womens teams, and the MSOE mens team attended the tournament and it was an overall success.
